It will be the end of an era for Greenville Super Foods, come Saturday.

After more than 30 years at the job, Kathryn Maraman will be retiring.

“I started at Super Foods on June 27, 1978 and I’ve been here ever since. I started my work career in the meat department and I finished it there,” Maraman said.

While she has enjoyed cutting and grinding meat to customers’ specifications, it is the customers themselves whom have made her job so special, she says.

“I love the customers; interacting with people, getting to know them and being able to call them by name – I really enjoy that,” Maraman said.

“It’s a special feeling.”

Working for a good boss also makes a job much more enjoyable. Maraman says she “thinks the world of Mr. Graham,” the long-time manager of the store.

“He has always been an inspiration for me and showed concern for my well-being. When my husband was ill, he arranged for me to take the time off I needed. I really appreciate working for someone like that,” Maraman said.

She also praised Super Foods owners, the Wilson Family, for their supportiveness through the years.

“I hope I am not going to miss it too much, but I have had some health problems, and I think it is time for me to go. I want to have the chance to enjoy my kids and grandkids while I still can. They grow up too fast,” Maraman said.

For her last day at work this Saturday, September 27, the supermarket will be providing cake for Maraman and all the customers from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
