The Brantley Bulldogs are now 4-0 for the 2008 season, with last week’s big Region 2 win over the Ariton Purple Cats, 51-14. The Bulldogs are ranked number 3 in the ASWA Class 1A poll and are 3-0 in Region 2 play.

Senior standout Anthony Gulley started the scoring spree Friday for Brantley on a 55-yard run for his first touchdown of the night, with Britt Barnes coming on to add the point-after. Barnes had an excellent night, as he was 7 for 7 with the PATs.

Tory Upshaw added the next Bulldog TD as he scored on a 14-yard pass from Quarterback Chase Hall.

Still in the first quarter, Brantley kept racking up the points as Gulley added six more points on a 60-yard pass from Hall.

Senior Stephen Walker added the last six points for the first quarter, putting Brantley way ahead of the Purple Cats 28-0.

Ariton finally got on the scoreboard during the second quarter, but the PAT was no good.

Anthony Gulley answered right back, however, with a 60-yard touchdown run. Barnes added his fifth PAT of the night, and the Bulldogs led 35-6 at halftime.

During the third quarter, junior Derek Holley scored on an 8-yard run; Britt Barnes added another PAT bringing the score to 42-6.

But the Purple Cats weren’t completely counted out just yet as they added their final points of the night during the third quarter, and scored on a two-point conversion, bringing it to 42-14 on the board.

But Ariton’s luck didn’t last long as they snapped the ball over the punter’s head on their own five-yard line, picking up a safety for the Bulldogs.

Fourth quarter action slowed down a bit as the younger Bulldogs got in some playing time. Sophomore quarterback Zach Johnson scored the final points of the game on a quarterback sneak, bringing the final score to 51-14.

Senior running back Anthony Gulley racked up 170 yards in 7 carries for two touchdowns. He also had three catches for 71 yards and one TD for the night.

Stephen Walker rushed for 69 yards in 11 carries and one touchdown, while Tory Upshaw had three catches for 37 yards and one TD.

On defense, quarterback Chase Hall had 7 tackles and two interceptions, while Adam Hill had 3 tackles and two interceptions.

The leading tackler for the night was Tory Upshaw with ten tackles and one quarterback sack.

Junior Cameron Wright was next in line with six tackles, and sophomore Michael Walker had five tackles and one quarterback sack.

The Bulldogs will travel to Highland Home Friday night to face the 0-4 Flying Squadron in non-region action.

Game time is 7 p.m.
