Crenshaw County Commissioner Ricky McElwain was the guest of honor at a supper given for him at the residence of Linda Nell Spivey on Rex Faulk Road.

The special supper was hosted on Aug. 8, and was given as a special “thank you” to McElwain on the completion of the Daniel Branch Road project.

“Every commissioner in the past has tried to get that road paved, and this time, it finally went through,” McElwain explained. “Our county engineer Benjie Sanders and the highway department had a great deal to do with our in-kind work, and I praise them for that.”

McElwain added that he wanted the residents along the road to know that even though he did a lot of the “legwork,” it was the county’s highway department who also deserved credit.

Three miles of dirt road were surfaced and paved during the project, along with the relocating of a 6-inch force main water line.

The project took approximately four years to reach full completion.

“The county’s match was $422,000, but we ended up with $595,000 in it,” he said.

About 30 people were present at the barbecue supper, which was complete with all the trimmings and was highlighted with entertainment.
