BOW- What is it you may ask? This week’s article is about the women in the county and the women that love to hunt.

Now there might not be too many of you out there, but men, I can say there are women out there that can out-hunt us.

Nowadays more and more women are picking up on hunting and outdoor recreation-type things.

Men, they aren’t just in the kitchen or the flower garden anymore.

They are out doing one of our favorite things – hunting.

BOW is an acronym for Becoming an Outdoors Woman, and there are a lot of things that they do like have work shops just like teachers.

Even though registration is now closed for the October event, if you ladies will log onto the net at OutdoorAlabama.com, you can read up on the BOW work shops that are held twice a year.

The next BOW workshop is set for October 3-5, 2008.

Here’s a little more information about BOW and the workshops.

Nature-based recreation is an increasingly popular pasttime among families, yet many women encounter barriers to the outdoors.

Thanks to the exciting Becoming an Outdoors-Woman program, scores of women are successfully overcoming these barriers.

The BOW program is more than just an event – it is a nationwide movement.

BOW is a three-day workshop designed for women ages 18 years or older.

The workshop offers hands-on instruction in a fun and non-threatening learning environment.

Participants choose from over 50 courses such as backyard wildlife, rock climbing, camp cooking, map and compass, camping, mountain biking, shooting sports (pistol, rifle, shotgun, muzzleloader, as well as gun safety), fishing, hunting, canoeing, nature photography, nature crafts, archery, ATV handling, bird watching, motor boat handling, and more.

Ladies, this workshop is for you if:

You have never tried but have hoped for an opportunity to learn.

You are a beginner who hopes to improve your skills.

You already do some but would like to learn some new ones.

You enjoy the camaraderie of like-minded individuals.

The Becoming an Outdoors-Woman workshop may change your life!

Enrollment is limited to the first 130 applicants.

Don’t be left out. Register early!

If this is something all the ladies in the county would enjoy doing, try and get enrolled for next year’s classes.

So until next time may God be with you and good luck in the field from my neck of the woods.
