Samuel A. Granade

Samuel Andrew Granade, age 89, died January 19, 2008 at John Knox Nursing Home, Montgomery. A memorial service was held at First Baptist Church Stakley Chapel at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 22 with Dr. Dale Duff, the Rev. Kenny Hoomes and the Rev. Tom Randall officiating. Visitation for family and friends followed the memorial service in the parlor of Stakley Hall. He is survived by: his wife of 65 years, Rubilaw Ray Granade; one son, Dr. Samuel Ray Granade (Deranda) of Arkadelphia, Ark.; two grandsons, Dr. Stephen Riley Granade of Madison (Misty) and Dr. Samuel Andrew Granade II (Joy) of Kansas City, Ks., and three great-grandchildren, Eli, LIza and Sam. Dr. Sam Granade served as chaplain in the 13th Airborne Division during WW II. He graduated from Howard College (Samford University) in Birmingham and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. While at Howard College, he pastured several north Alabama churches and for 25 years the Evergreen Baptist Church in Evergreen.

During his retirement, he was interim pastor of 15 Alabama Baptist churches, including First Baptist Church of Greenville.

He also established and served as director of the Department of the Department of Church Minister Relations at the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions. Dr. Granade

served four years on the Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention.

Pallbearers were Dr. Stephen Riley Granade, Dr. Samuel Andrew Granade II, Charles Jackson Granade Jr., Harvey Granade Little, Dr. Larry Jackson, John Ammons, Dr. Samuel Mason and Larry Hardesty. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to The Sam and Ribilaw Granade Memorial Scholarship Fund of The Baptist Foundation of Alabama, P.O. Box 241227, Montgomery, AL 36124.
