Hilda K. Johnson, 87, a longtime resident of Camden, died January 6, 2008 after a long illness. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at the Camden United Methodist Church in Camden. Graveside services were at 1:30 p.m. in the River Ridge Cemetery in Franklin in Monroe County on Highway 41 with Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home of Camden directing.
The family received friends on Tuesday, January 8, 2008 from 10 a.m. to service time in the fellowship hall of the Camden UMC with Dunklin & Daniels FH of Camden directing.
Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, Strother Gregg Johnson; her second husband of five years, Dr. James Wallace Johnson, and a brother, James Lennon Kelly. She is survived by: three sons, Strother Gregg Johnson Jr. (Cilla), Andrew Harrison Johnson (Lindsay) and Frank Kelly Johnson (Debbie), six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one sister, three sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
She was a 1941 graduate of Montevallo College and a schoolteacher and homemaker for many years in both Monroe and Wilcox counties. She belonged to Camden Methodist Church and was a member and teacher of the Wilella Burford Sunday School class. She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Flur de Lis Garden Club of Camden. Mrs. Johnson loved Camden, her longtime home, and its residents. She also loved the beauty of nature in Alabama. The family asks in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Bible Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
