Hwashin gave the Greenville YMCA an early Christmas present Tuesday afternoon. YMCA Director Amanda Phillips was presented with a check for $5,000 “for children's programs and for a concert,” said Hwashin DHR Manager Rhonda Simmons.
“This is presented on behalf of all our employees for their hard work. We know many of them take advantage of this facility,” Simmons said.
The concert referred to by Simmons is a special event slated for Watermelon Jubilee 2007, Phillips said.
“Our plan is to have a concert in conjunction with Jubilee next August. We are working on bringing Marty Raybon to perform.”
Phillips said the board hoped to have Raybon give a mini-concert on the Jubilee stage Saturday afternoon, followed by a full-fledged concert beneath the stars on the Y football field that evening.
“Several of our vendors suggested planning a concert as part of Jubilee, and we feel it would be a good draw,” Phillips said.
As 2006 winds down, Phillips and the Y board are gearing up for the 2007 membership drive, and plan to blanket the area with fliers, offering special incentives to encourage new members for the year to come.
“We have lots of great programs in place here.
We invite people to come and check out what we have to offer, including all our new fitness equipment,” Phillips said.
Two new treadmills, elliptical trainers and a CyBex Arc trainer (a combination treadmill and elliptical workout machine) have been added to the other fitness machines and free weights offered at the YMCA.
“We also offer 15 aerobics classes at different times during the day and yoga classes, held upstairs in a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere,” Phillips said.
