n Southern States Mule and Donkey Classic
The Southern States Mule and Donkey Classic will be held Saturday, Sept. 30 beginning at 9 a.m. at The Covington Center Arena in Andalusia. Highlights include a mule and donkey show, arts and crafts, and the crowning of the Mule Day Queen and Court. Admission is free. n Fifth Saturday Singing
Damascus Baptist Church will host a fifth Saturday night singing on Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. All are invited to attend.
n GHS Class of ‘92 Meeting
The 1992 class of Greenville High School will hold their 15-year class reunion meeting at Shoney's in Greenville at 2 p.m. on Sept. 20, 2006. Please make plans to attend.
n Pine Flat Homecoming and Memorial Day
Pine Flat Methodist Church and Pine Flat Cemetery Association will celebrate homecoming and Decoration Day at 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 1. Guest speaker will be Rev. Cletice Ingram. “Dinner on the ground” will follow the worship service. Please come worship and fellowship with us. Bring a basket lunch, folding chairs and folding tables.
n Boiled Peanuts

n Church Homecoming
Liberty Methodist Church will observe its annual homecoming on Oct. 8. Services will begin at 11 a.m., followed by lunch. Rev. Richard Rouse, Liberty Pastor, will be the speaker.
n Garland VFD Trade Day
Garland VFD will host a “Garland Trade Day” Oct. 14, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Garland Firehouse. Festivities include arts and crafts, gospel singing, door prizes, a country store filled with homemade jellies, cakes, peanut brittle and boiled peanuts and plenty of booths with vendors of all kinds.

n Board Meeting
The Butler County Board of Education will conduct its next regular meeting on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. at McKenzie High School in McKenzie. The meeting will be held in the school auditorium. The public is encouraged to attend.
n Giant Garage Sale in Troy
Troy Parks & Recreation will host the largest garage sale Troy and Pike County has ever had. Over 100 booths will be available from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006 at the City of Troy Community Recreation Center. n Elks Meeting
The Elks of America are holding a planning meeting Oct. 25 at the Greenville Shoney's at 7 p.m. The Elks have community targeted programs to help youth with scholarships, sports sponsorships, anti drug education and scouting. We also provide community assistance with Veterans programs and helping the less fortunate with food baskets. We also provide a Youth Camp on Lake Martin near Tallassee for weekend camping. If interest can be developed among 100 men and women in the area the Elks will start a new facility in Greenville.
n Casting Call for “Honeydripper”
The casting call continues for the upcoming film “Honeydripper” which begins filming Oct. 16 in Butler County. Everyone, particularly African-Americans, are encouraged to apply. 500 extras and 18 speaking roles will be cast. Send in a non-returnable photo, name, age, performing experience and contact info to Honneydripper Films, Inc., 100 West Commerce St., Greenville, AL 36037, or drop by the office located in the Whitney (Old First National) Bank in Greenville. Casting begins Sept. 20, so contact the office soon.
n Fall Registration Greenville P&R
Registration for the following fall leagues is taking place through Sept. 15 at the Greenville Parks and Recreation Dept. at Beeland Park office.
n Baseball registration: Mite League (6-8 years old) and Junior League (9-11 years old) Fees are $20.
Girls' Fast-Pitch Softball

n Disabled American Veterans seek new members
The Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary Unit 67 is seeking new members. The unit meets every fourth Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at the American Legion Building at the Butler County Fairgrounds.
The unit also has a junior program for ages newborn to age 17.
The unit won first place for community service in the 10 to 50-member category at state competition.
Unit 67 Commander is Alberta Johnson.

n Free Tutoring Classes
“Every Child Deserves A Chance” is now offering free tutoring classes in the areas of reading, English and math on Mondays and Wednnesdays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Greenville Housing Authority Recreation Room to students enrolled in Butler County Schools in grades K-12. n Adult Education Classes
The ADPE through the LBWCC Adult Education Consortium is offering classes for adults who did not complete their high school education or need to strengthen educational and job skills.

The Greenville Chess Club meets on Monday evenings from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Butler Baptist Associational Office, 309 South Pine Street.

n County Commission
The meeting time for the Butler County Commission's regularly scheduled second-Monday meetings has been changed from 10 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Workshops for each regularly scheduled meeting will still be held on the prior Thursday at 6 p.m.
n Athletic Club Meeting
The public is invited to participate at scheduled Greenville High Athletic Club meetings at 6 p.m. every other Monday in the high school cafeteria. The public is encouraged to attend and share ideas toward building a championship-level athletic department.
n 21st Century After School Program
The Butler County School System will offer after school programs for K-8th grade students beginning August 14. Programs are available Mondays – Fridays through 5 p.m. for $25 per month at each of the following schools: W.O. Parmer, Greenville Elementary, Greenville Middle, R.L. Austin, and Georgiana High (7th & 8th grades). Registration is available at the school offices, at the Education & Community Center, and at www.butlerco.k12.al.us
