A Luverne couple was struck by a bus outside Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa following the University of Alabama's Saturday night game against Middle Tennessee State.
Debra and Mike Jones, two long-time residents of Luverne, are currently hospitalized at Druid City Hospital Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa. The pair was walking from the stadium, when a bus, reportedly utilized by Alabama's Million Dollar Band, jumped a curb.
Martha Dickey, owner of Steppin' Out and employer of Debra, said she was told Mike pushed both his wife and three teenagers out of the bus's path, but bore most of the impact.
His injuries include a broken leg, broken pelvis, crushed chest with both lungs collapsed and broken neck, she said.
However, originally listed in critical condition, Mike had improved on Wednesday and was scheduled to have surgery on his leg Friday, said Dickey.
Debra, she said, suffered broken ribs and a punctured lung, but was released from the hospital on Wednesday.
"She's doing better," said Dickey.
