The local YMCA continues in its quest to raise funds for the Partners in Youth Campaign with plans for a big hunters’ exposition this fall.

The 1st Annual South Alabama Hunters’ Expo is slated for Saturday and Sunday, October 22 and 23, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the YMCA property. Watermelon Hill, re-dubbed White Oak Hill for the occasion, will offer nearly five acres of sunshine and shade for vendors to display their products. Admission will be $5 for adults and $1 for students.

Last weekend, YMCA Director Amanda Phillips traveled to Atlanta to just such an event, in hopes of attracting some of the Atlanta vendors to Greenville’s expo.

&uot;We already have vendors from as far away as Ohio who are registered for the Greenville event, so we are very excited,&uot; Phillips said.

The Y director wants to remind everyone the monies spent to rent booths at the upcoming expo are tax-deductible.

&uot;And all the monies raised will go to our Partners in Youth Campaign,&uot; she said.

In addition to vendors selling their wares, the expo will feature a big rack competition, bow competition and turkey calling competition. Phillips says there will also be &uot;plenty of good food and entertainment, with clowns and fun for the kids.&uot;

Phillips says she believes this event will be a great one for the city, county and the YMCA.

&uot;I think the hunters’ expo will be something the whole family can enjoy together,&uot; she said. For more information, call 382-0550.
