By Regina Grayson

Butler County seems to have missed the worst of Hurricane Katrina. Small power outages were reported in the city and county, but officials say it could have been much worse.

As rain bands and gusty winds raked the county, tornado warnings were issues in counties to the east and west of Butler, but so far the county has missed severe weather.

According to Butler County Schools’ Superintendent Mike Looney, all schools in Butler County will be open Tuesday, Aug. 30, unless there is a significant change in the weather Monday evening.

There will also be constant updates on road conditions in the county throughout the evening. If there are any hazardous road conditions or substantial power outages, Looney could decide to close the school system Tuesday as well.

Fort Dale Academy will be open Tuesday, Aug. 30, according to Headmaster David Brantley.
