Norreds celebrate 60th wedding anniversary

William and Doris Norred of Pine Apple, Alabama, recently celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary at their home with seventeen members of their immediate family.
The couple was married on June 30, 1945 at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas. Mr. Norred is 88 and Mrs. Norred is 81. The couple was honored by their children with an engraved silver urn at a celebratory luncheon on July 2, 2005.
Mr. Norred served in World War II in the Army Air Force as a captain for a B-26 Bomber. He met the then Miss Simmons in her hometown of San Antonio. She was a civil service employee at Brooke Army Medical Center.
After Mr. Norred's discharge, the couple moved to Andalusia, where Mr. Norred was employed by the Andalusia City School System as Head Coach at Andalusia High School where he coached football and basketball.
In 1948, they moved to Pine Apple, his ancestral hometown, where he began his 34 years of service with the United States Postal Service as a rural letter carrier. Mr. Norred was also a cattle farmer until his retirement in 1982.
Mr. and Mrs. Norred are members of Friendship Baptist Church in Pine Apple, where Mr. Norred has been a member for 78 years. He had served as a deacon for over 50 years.
The couple has four children: Kitty Lamkin of Pine Apple, Roger of Pine Apple, Pennye Anderson of Andalusia, and Keith of Columbus, Ga.
They have seven grandchildren: Donna-Marie Lamkin Crocker of Pine Apple, Bill Lamkin of Jacksonville, Fla., Jenny Anderson Waltman of Birmingham, Mark Anderson of Andalusia, Wendy Norred of Montgomery, and Culver and Lillie Norred of Columbus, Ga. The couple also has three great-grandchildren: Davis and Kathryn Crocker of Pine Apple and Amelia Grace Waltman of Birmingham.
