Lay Witness Mission at UMC

Luverne United Methodist Church is hosting a Lay Witness Mission on the weekend of July 22-24.

Everyone is invited to come hear the testimonies of lay people who have come at their own expense to share about their experiences with the Lord.

Ken McKemie, Chairman of the Conference Lay Witness Board, from Valley, AL, will be the coordinator.

The event begins with a potluck supper on Friday night at 6 p.m.

There are three sessions on Saturday – morning coffees in homes at 10 a.m., a luncheon at the church, and the evening session at 7 p.m.

The Mission concludes with the Sunday morning worship service at 11 a.m.

There will be special activities for youth and children.

FFMA Beauty Pageant

The Annual Crenshaw County Farmers Federation Miss Agriculture Pageant is scheduled for Saturday, July 23 at 7 p.m. at Luverne High School. You must be between the ages of 17 and 24. If you are interested in entering please contact Janice Hollis at 335-6137 for more information.

Patterson Reunion

The annual Patterson reunion will be Sunday, July 24 at New Harmony Baptist Church. All descendants and friends of the family of David Henry Patterson are invited to attend church at 11 a.m., followed by a covered dish luncheon in the church fellowship hall.

Star of Hope Homecoming

The Star of Hope Missionary Baptist Church will observe its annual homecoming and revival starting on July 24. Rev. Michael Foster of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Greenville, will be the guest speaker for homecoming services on Sunday, July 24, starting at 2 p.m. Revival will start on Monday, July 25 and run until Friday, July 29, with the Rev. A.R. Williams of Rocky Head Baptist Church and Shiloh Baptist Church as guest speaker. Services will start 7 p.m. nightly. All are invited.


Pleasant Home Baptist Church on Hwy 77 in the Beat 12 community will have its homecoming July 24 at 11 a.m. and lunch will be served following the service. Revival will begin Monday July 25 through Friday July 29 at 7:30 p.m. each night. The guest speaker will be Pastor Mike Green from South Luverne Baptist Church. There will be special music each night.

Public Hearing

The City of Luverne will hold a public hearing on Monday, July 25 at 4 p.m. at City Hall on an application filed by Manarcas Mexican Store, Inc. for doing business as Manarcas for a restaurant retail liquor license at 1224 South Forest


Vacation Bible School

Friendship Baptist Church Vacation Bible School of the Bullock Community will be from Monday, July 25 to Friday, July 29 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. each

night. There will be classes for children through adults. Supper will be served. Everyone welcome. For more information please call Twyla Smith at 335-6575.

Boater's License Course

There will be a boater's license course on Monday, July 25 and Tuesday, July 26 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Furman Mitchell Center in Luverne. Students must be present both nights and complete a written test on the final night of the course to be certified. There is no charge for this course. Luverne City Council

The Luverne City Council will meet on Monday, July 25 at 5 p.m. at the Luverne City Hall. All citizens of Luverne are invited to the meeting.

Commission Meeting

The Crenshaw County Commission will hold its second meeting of the month of July at 6 p.m. on Monday, July 25. Citizens of Crenshaw County are invited to attend.

Terrific Tuesday

The Lapine Methodist Church is holding "Terrific Tuesday" through July 26. This is a program designed for children, ages two through 12, for Bible study. Refreshments will be served. It will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. every Tuesday.

Brantley Town Council

The Brantley Town Council will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 1 for its monthly town meeting. The council meets in the library at town hall. All citizens of Brantley are invited to attend.

Dozier Baptist Church will hold Revival Friday, August 5 and Saturday, August 6 starting at 7 p.m. nightly. Guest speaker for Friday night is Rev. Wallace Newton. Gospel Singing

Karen Peck and New River, the Down East Boys, Mercy Rain and Derek and Taletha Snellgrove will be in concert Saturday, August 6 at the Cattleman Park Building located on Highway 231 South of Troy. The doors will be open at 6 p.m. and the concert will start at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at Troy Bank and Trust Main Office and the Shout of Jericho. The monthly Mayors' Prayer Breakfast has been cancelled for the summer.
