Greenville and Butler County suffered its first homicide of 2005 Tuesday morning at a Greenville apartment complex.

According to Greenville Police Chief Lonzo Ingram, officers responded to Greenville Terrace Apartments at 6:12 a.m. Tuesday and found one man dead on the apartment floor.

Ingram identified the victim as Jerome Smith, 39.

"He had been shot once in the head," Ingram said.

"At the scene, we recovered a .380 semi automatic handgun.

Mr. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Richard Hornsby."

He went on to say that officers arrested Selena Dunklin, 32, who lived at the same residence, and charged her with murder.

She is currently being held in the Butler County Jail.

"This came about apparently as the result of a domestic disturbance in the home," Ingram said.

Ingram said there was also a juvenile in the apartment when the shooting occurred.

"The juvenile is 13 years old, he said.

"We don't believe they witnessed it."

Greenville's last homicide took place on June 23, 2005, when Brandon Boggan was gunned down just outside his girlfriend's apartment at Perdue Place.
