Greenville Recreation Director Jerome Harris has been watching the weather more than most meteorologists these days.

Greenville has been host to the Dixie Youth baseball tournament, which is scheduled to conclude Thursday night.

And this Saturday the ASA Men's Class B state tournament will be held at the Greenville Softball Complex.

The ASA tournament originally was slated to kick off last Saturday, but Harris postponed the tournament because of the arrival of Hurricane Dennis.

The tournament, which is presently comprised of eight teams from across the state, will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday with a championship game scheduled for 7 p.m.

All teams which are in this tournament are automatic qualifiers for the national tournament in Montgomery. The tournament is scheduled to begin Sept. 1 at Lagoon Park Softball Complex.

Harris said that more teams could join the tournament, but that will be up to district directors.

"I want to get this tournament going and get it over with before we get another storm in here," Harris said.

And inclement weather could play a part with the arrival of Tropical Storm Emily brewing near Cuba.
