The Luverne Dixie Boys 14-year-old team has qualified for district competition by virtue of being one of the last two teams remaining in sub-district play. However, head coach Scotty Wallace would love to sweep Elba and claim the sub-district crown, especially since the tournament is being played at Luverne's Persons Park.

Luverne had to beat Elba - unbeaten in tournament play - twice in order to win the title on Wednesday night. Results were unavailable at press time.

Elba handed Luverne its only loss of the tournament 13-1 on Monday night.

"We played a really bad game," said coach Scotty Wallace. "We hit about as well as they did in the game but we walked nine guys and struggled to throw strikes."

After the loss, Luverne rebounded on Tuesday to eliminate Dothan 10-5. Chad Free, Jeremiah Leach, Anthony Gulley, and Steven Walker all had hits to lead Luverne. Dalton Greer had two hits as Luverne opened up the first inning with seven runs.

Luverne beat Highland Home 9-0 in the first game of the tournament. Elba knocked off Greenville to advance to the championship round.
