Last year’s county fair was cancelled due to Ivan. But never fear – you won’t have to wait very long to enjoy the thrills and chills of your favorite fair rides.
Beginning this Saturday through the following Saturday, the old Wal-Mart parking lot in Greenville will be filled with the exciting sights and sounds of the fair.
The Greenville Kiwanis Club is holding a &uot;Spring Fling&uot; May 21 through May 28 and youngsters of all ages are invited to come and enjoy rides galore such as the giant Ferris wheel, Pharoah’s Fury and the Tornado , says Kiwanian James Peavy. The gates will open at 6 p.m. each night and at 3 p.m. on the weekends.
&uot; This will be a scaled-down version of what you would see at a regular fair,&uot; Peavy explains.
An extensive array of children’s rides will also be in place for the small fry in their Kiddieland section.
&uot;Armbands are available for a charge of $12 each and with one you can ride any rides you want as much as you want from opening to closing,&uot; says Peavy.
As for when the &uot;Spring Fling&uot; will close each night, that all depends. Peavy says.
&uot;Whenever the folks quit coming in is when we’ll be done for the night,&uot; he says with a grin.
The Kiwanis, who also sponsor the annual Butler County Fair, will use the funds raised during the &uot;Spring Fling&uot; for the organization’s charitable concerns.
&uot; This is family fun for everyone and we hope folks will turn out and support us,&uot; Peavy says.
As for the county fair, Peavy says it is slated for the last full week of September at the Butler County Fairgrounds.
