Taylor earns spot in sectional contest
Todd Burkett swept all three events in the 11- and 12-year-old division of Wednesday's Pepsi Pitch, Hit and Run competition at Beeland Park, but he did not represent Greenville Saturday at the sectional competition.
Burkett, who tallied 1,119 points, was unable to compete in the sectional, so Kevin Taylor represented Greenville in that age group.
Taylor was second to Burkett in the hitting and running categories, while Dalton Burns and Skylar McKewon tied for top honors in the pitching competition.
Paul Whigham represented Greenville as the all-around champ in the 13- and 14-year-old division after totaling 805 points. Whigham tied with Matthew Burkett for the pitching title and went on to win the running title. Hunter Harrell was the hitting champion.
Ryan Burkett took top honors in the 7- and 8-year-old all-around champion by holding off JaQuan Lewis.
Burkett won the running title, while Lewis was the pitching champion. Colby Booker was the hitting champion with a 115-foot hit.
Patrick Rusell was named the 9- and 10-year-old all-around champion by edging Chip Taylor by 22 points. Russell tied with Cade Tillery, Jason Schofield and Taylor for the pitching title.
Meanwhile, Ryan Taylor came away with the hitting and running crowns.
