Greenville middle linebacker Kelcius Savage was selected to play in the annual Alabama-Mississippi All-Star football classic in Mobile June 4 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.

Savage will be among a handful of players who have not signed on with college teams, so he is hoping the game will allow for him to showcase his talents.

"This is my last chance to let it be known that I want to play college football," Savage said. "If I am not signed somewhere, I will probably walk on somewhere."

Savage led the Tigers with 140 tackles last year with 12 tackles for loss, eight sacks and two interceptions.

The 5-foot-11 linebacker was named to the All-County team and was an honorable mention All-State selection.

"They are definitely getting a good kid," Greenville coach Alvin Briggs said. "He will certainly work hard."

Savage was extended the invitation on Thursday.

"It was an exciting day for me," he said. "It certainly made my day go by a lot faster and better."

Between now and the team's first practice, which is slated for May 15, Savage said he will continue his weight training regimen and running.

"I need to work more on my squats in the weight room, and I've been working harder running to get back into playing shape," he said.

If Savage is not signed to a scholarship, he said he may walk on at Alabama A&M or Troy University.
