Greenville Lady Panther coach John Cheatham was expecting a physical game when his squad of Lady Panthers took the court against the Lady Tigers of McKenzie.
He was not let down.
McKenzie battled back and had the game within their grasp, tied at the half, 21-21. But, the Georgiana Lady Panthers rallied to a 10-2 third quarter run pushing them ahead in their effort to pick up the victory, 47-34. That was their first win of the season.
The Lady Panthers put the first points on the board and then expanded their lead to 4-0.
The two teams traded baskets with Georgiana staying a point up through the first period. The period ended with the Lady Panthers up 10-7.
The second period was as much of a battle as the first one with Georgiana and McKenzie going into the locker room deadlocked at 21-21.
The Lady Panthers used a 10-2 third quarter to push them ahead and wear down the Lady Tigers.
Georgiana stayed on top for a majority of the second half and had their largest lead of the night with under 1:30 left in the game. When the final horn sounded, Georgiana claimed the 47-34 victory.
