Petrey council seeking grant for storm shelter

Published 12:00 am Wednesday, November 17, 2004

Hurricane Ivan reminded the citizens of Petrey that most have no storm shelter available.

The Petrey Town Council will work to solve that problem by seeking a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) matching grant to build a storm shelter on the Community Center property. The shelter would be built to accommodate up to 50 people during severe storms.

Other matters taken up before the Town Council on Nov. 1 were: approving the purchase of 911 street signs, looking into the possibility of and requirements for extending the town limits, approving the rental of the community center for $75 and not allowing any alcoholic beverages or tobacco products in the building, and appointing two councilmen to look into animal control within the town limits.
