As required by state law, the Butler County School System will observe Veterans Day holiday on Thursday, Nov. 11. All schools, the central office, the community learning center, bus shop and special service facilities will be closed.
The Greenville Lions Club is hosting a ceremony on Thursday morning, Nov. 11, to honor all the veterans of Butler County.
It will take place at the World War II Memorial at City Hall at 11 a.m. An additional casualty of World War II, Seaman 1/C Hiliary C. Jackson, will be honored with his name added to the monument.
And a grave marker for Private Barnes Dunn, USMC will be dedicated for later placement at his grave in Magnolia Cemetery.
Nov. 12
Troy University's Department of Development will hold its fourth annual Holiday Fair on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 12-13, on the Shackelford Quad.
Nov. 13
The Miss Teen Trojan pageant, a Miss Teen Alabama America preliminary, will be held on Saturday, Nov. 13, at 2 p.m. at Troy
University. The pageant will be held in the Claudia Crosby Theater on the Troy Campus.
The McKenzie Volunteer Fire Department will hold a Boston Butt Sale on Nov. 13, from 8 a.m. until noon. Orders need to be placed before Nov. 8 at 4 p.m. They are $20 each. To place an order, call the town hall at 374-2311.
Nov. 14
Saint Francis Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate its 106th church anniversary on Sunday, Nov. 14, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Robert White, Pastor of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church will be the guest speaker.
Revival and homecoming services will be held at The House of Prayer Holiness Church Nov. 14, at 2 p.m. The speaker will be Pastor Harold Daniels. Services Nov. 15 through 19 will be at 7:30 p.m. with Elder James Taylor speaking.
The County Line Church of Christ will hold a gospel meeting Nov. 14 through 17. Bro. Don Myers, minister of Salem Church of Christ, will be the guest speaker. There will be a covered dish lunch following the Sunday services.
The Greenville Area Fine Arts League (GAFAL) will be holding a special meeting at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 14 at the Main Street building on Commerce St. This meeting will give local artists who have expressed interest in joining the organization a chance to meet with current members and learn more about the Fine Arts League.
Anyone interested in joining the GAFAL should come and join current GAFAL members at 2 p.m. on Nov. 14 downtown.
Volunteers are needed to pack boxes for the Operation Christmas Child shoe box ministry at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center from Nov.15-20. Hours are 1-5 p.m. Mon. thru Fri. and 9 a.m. – noon Saturday. Strong workers and good-sized trucks are also needed to pack for shipment to Montgomery on Sun., Nov. 21. Contact Linda Horn at 382-4902.
