Flea Market Under the Pines

The Highland Home Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department will hold a big flea market on Saturday.

There will be vendors setup outside under the pines and inside. Get your junk and other stuff together and join the department.

WMU Extravaganza Conferences

The Woman's Missionary Union of Alabama Crenshaw Baptist Association invite you to join them for its WMU "Christ Followers" Extravaganza Conferences to be held from 6 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 8 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

There will be conferences for WMU Directors, Mission Growth, Mission Friends, Girls In Action and Children In Action, Acteens and Youth On Mission, Women on Mission and Adults on Mission and "She walked with Jesus" emphasis book.

Come out and join us for an evening of fun, learning and fellowship.

Heart Walk Nearing

Crenshaw County is gearing up for its annual American Heart Walk. This year's Walk will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 9 at E.L. Turner Park. Registration will begin at 5 p.m.

Basic Computer Classes

Highland Home School will serve as the site of a basic computer class, which will begin at

Jeffcoat Reunion

All descendants of Elijah L. and Ella Marzelle Jeffcoat are invited to the annual family reunion scheduled for 11 a.m. on Nov. 13 on Happy Trails Farm on Crenshaw County Road 50.

Special activities are planned for the children such as horseback riding, mountain climbing, hayrides and much more.

Coldwater Congregational Church will host a gospel concert at 7 p.m. on Nov. 15 featuring Willie and Rodie Longenecker.

The Longenecker's have lived in central Canada for 35 years teaching, preaching and singing.

The church is located approximately five miles east of Hwy. 29.

Ready to learn workshop

Parents, teachers and caregivers are invited to attend a "Math is Everywhere" Workshop presented by the Greenville campus of

Lurleen B. Wallace Community College

in cooperation with Alabama Public Television from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 18 in Room 19.

The workshop is a part of the Ready To Learn service provided by Alabama Public Television. Through an orientation to the Ready To Learn Learning Triangle as the foundation, participants learn to use the television as an active learning tool by extending the viewing to books and activities and other educational and web-site resources available through Alabama Public Television.

This workshop helps parents, teachers, and caregivers become involved with their children’s learning and development through viewing, doing, and reading. Participants will receive free books and other materials to help children develop math skills.

Participants will also receive information about the new Child Development Degree offered by LBW Community College.

Senior Citizen Day Trip

Get into the holiday spirit and join the fun.

A senior citizen day trip to tour the historic Governor's Mansion and Capitol, both of which will be decorated for the holiday season, is scheduled for Dec. 7. The group will also dine at the Sahara Restaurant.

The highlight of the tour will be meeting Gov. Bob Riley and having a group picture taken with him on the Capitol steps.

Computer Classes

Basic computer classes will be offered at 6 p.m. starting Nov. 9 at the Crenshaw County Board of Education in Luverne.

The course lasts throughout the month of November and will meet twice a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays, and will be taught by Leanne Taylor.

LBWCC Hunter Ed Course

The Alabama Hunter Education Course will be offered by the Alabama Conservation Department's Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division on the MacArthur Campus of LBW Community College November 8, 9, 10, and 11.

The course will be held in the Conference Center Building from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. each night.

This will be a four-day course.

In 1991, the Alabama Legislature passed legislation that requires all first time hunting license buyers born on or after Aug. 1, 1977 to complete a hunter education course prior to purchasing their first hunting license.

Alabama is one of 49 states that has a mandatory hunter education program.

The goal of the Hunter Education Program is to make Alabama hunters more responsible and more knowledgeable about wildlife conservation.

The Hunter Education Course is minimum of 10 hours of instruction plus a written examination.

Students will be given a written exam to be tested for certification on the last night of class.

The course includes but is not limited to firearm safety and handling, responsible hunting and hunter ethics, wildlife law, wildlife management and identification, archery, muzzleloading, first aid, survival, and game care.

There is no charge to attend this course.

There is no charge for the certification exam.

Participants must be age 10 years old or older to attend the class and receive certification.

Participants will need to bring their social security card with them on the first night of class.

Taekwondo Classes

Taekwondo classes will be offered by the Crenshaw County Board of Education at 9 a.m. every Saturday beginning Nov. 13. All proceeds will be donated back into the program for additional equipment.

The classes are intended for children and adults and will be taught by second-degree black belt, David Kim, who is General Affairs Manager of the SMART Plant in Luverne.

Poinsettias Sale

The Luverne Rotary Club is beginning to take orders for it's annual poinsettia sell.

The poinsettias are available in red, white and pink and cost $9 each. Plants will be available for pick up Saturday, Dec. 4.

Proceeds from the sell of the plants will benefit the Crenshaw County Department of Human Resources' Operation Santa Clause as well as other charitable causes throughout the county.

Jr. Miss Tickets on sale

Support Crenshaw County's 2005 Junior Miss at Alabama's Junior Miss to be held in Montgomery on Dec. 10-11.

Tickets for Friday night cost $15, Saturday afternoon $15 and Saturday night $25. A weekend pass cost $45.

Food Program Offered

The Aging and Disabled Services, Inc. announces the sponsorship of the Child and Adult Care Food Program in Crenshaw County.

Meals will be made available at no separate charge to enrolled participants at the Crenshaw County Adult Dare Care, located at 4122 Quail Tower Road in Luverne.
