Mayor#039;s Prayer Breakfast slated prior to presidential election

Published 12:00 am Thursday, October 28, 2004

Remember to pray for the national election and plan to vote next Tuesday.

If you have not yet attended the countywide Mayors' Prayer Breakfast in Luverne, this would be the perfect time to go and join with others in petitioning God for the man of His choice to win the Presidency. The meeting will be held at 7 a.m. on Nov. 1 at the John Harrison Cultural Center.

A light breakfast will be served (usually has been something homemade). A local minister will give a brief devotional; then all present may pray aloud or silently. Different concerns of the communities in Crenshaw County will be lifted up, especially praying for the mayors, other city and county officials, emergency workers, pastors, churches, teachers, students, businessmen and others. The meeting concludes at 7:45 a.m.

Another thing to remember is that Daylight Savings Time ends at 2 a.m. Saturday. You will get an extra hour of sleep, so when you arise on Sunday morning, you should feel wonderful!

The way to remember the time changes is that in the fall, you "fall back," meaning you set your clock back an hour. The way to remember in the spring, is you "spring forward," moving your clock forward an hour. If you've had trouble getting it straight, this little tip should really help you!

Saturday was a workday for the Northeast Crenshaw Volunteer Fire Department.

Seven men met at Ricky Holley's barn, which he is donating for the temporary fire station.

Holley's contribution is greatly appreciated, as the fire truck needs a shelter during the winter to keep the water from freezing. A permanent structure will be built at a later date beside the Petrey Community Center.

The volunteers got the barn cleaned up and ready for the fire truck.

The Petrey Town Council will change their meeting date from the normally scheduled time of first Tuesday to Monday, Nov. 1, due to the election.

The public is welcome to attend the meeting at 7 p.m. at the Petrey Community Center. The building has some new improvements, so this would be a good time to see it.
