He started his newspaper career in 1978 with The Tuscaloosa News and joined Boone Newspapers, Inc. in 1996. He is the former president and publisher of Houston Newspapers, Inc., a Boone affiliate, where he served in that capacity for three years before joining Greenville Newspapers in 2002.

Palmer grew up in Tuscaloosa, Ala., the third of three brothers. He attended Shelton State Community College and the University of Alabama before beginning his newspaper career. He is an avid University of Alabama fan and enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, Ashley and Maggie and playing golf in his spare time.
