Tisdale presented a beautiful and heart-warming musical concert of hand bell music.

After the music program everyone enjoyed a supper of hotdogs and chips. Then old-fashion homemade ice cream, cake and cookies were served.

Everyone enjoyed fellowship and visiting, especially with the children, who did such a grand performance with the music. Some of the children were as young as K-4.

Rev. Jesse Evans dismissed the group with prayer.

Mattie Pearl Sport returned home Aug. 28 from a 30-day tour with Capital Trailway Tours. The tour was &uot;The Alaska Inside Passage and Yukon Territory Tour," conducted by Jake and Jo Styron of Montgomery.

Her roommate and now a newfound friend was Annette Eddings of Millbrook. Also on the tour from this area were Johnny and Beverly Taylor of Goshen.

Sport states there is no way she can describe all the experiences, beauty and majesty of this well-planned memorial tour to Alaska.

The tour included traveling through many U.S. States and Canada. She said the Canadian Rockies were the most awe-inspiring sight of all. The breathtaking view of the Humpback and orca whales, Eagles and many other forms of wildlife that was seen from the ferry at &uot;The Inside Passage&uot; were also a highlight of the tour.

Sport said the was a trip of a lifetime of memories.

Vivian Walker and Judy Morgan spent August 21 in Birmingham as they visited the Vulcan and shopped at the Galleria. On Sunday they drove to Dallas, Texas to visit Vivian’s uncle, Dr. T. Bob Davis and family.

Dr. Davis carried them sightseeing to many points of interest in the Dallas area. On Aug. 25 the two joined in a birthday celebration for Shawn Davis at a local restaurant and on Aug. 26 they enjoyed dinner with family and friends at the famous revolving restaurant, &uot;The An Tares," that gently revolves on top of the Reunion Towers in Dallas.

Vivian and Judy are dear friends and former classmates of Luverne High School.

This week: Here is an article written by the pastor of the United Methodist Church of Thomasville, Ga., which I found it intriguing.

Early Sunday morning 1 was listening to CNN, and I heard a story about the number of U.S. military personnel who are coming home without all of their limbs. There are many of our men and women who are losing legs, arms and hands in battle. The report focused on one young woman named Danielle Green, whose nickname on the Notre Dame women’s basketball team was &uot;D-Smooth&uot;, so named for her smooth, left-handed shooting. Now, however, she has no left hand; a grenade blew it off while she patrolled a Baghdad police station. Danielle said to her former Notre Dame basketball coach, Muffet McGraw, &uot;Coach, you know how you were always on me about working on my right hand dribble. Well, I’m going to start.&uot;

One of the things that impressed me most about this young woman was that she said how much she was now looking forward to training for the next Paralympic Games. When I heard that, it occurred to me how many times in life I need an attitude adjustment. Instead of asking &uot;Why me?&uot;, this young woman is asking, &uot;What is next?&uot;

How do you handle heartbreak or tragedy in life? How do you deal with the death of dreams? Normal reactions may include shock and depression, but if we stay there and let those reactions make a home in our lives, then we may miss what God has in mind for the rest of our lives.

I long ago learned that when something awful happens in my life, not to ask God &uot;Why&uot;, but instead to ask him for help! Sometimes, though, I need to be reminded. I wish I could say &uot;thank you&uot; to Danielle Green for my most recent reminder, but I have (and will continue to) thank God for the attitude adjustment she gave me, without ever even knowing about it.
