Friendly reminder to watch for children

As many of you may have noticed this week, the public schools are off and running for another academic year.

That means drivers should pay closer attention during the school hours.

Also, remember that it is illegal to pass a school bus that is stopped with its sign extended loading or unloading students.

Police do not take this offense lightly.

Also, there are students crossing in the crosswalks near the schools and since children often are being children and not paying attention, it is up to us to pay attention for them.

Finally, let's also keep an eye out for those who would harm our children. God forbid it should happen here, but there are people who travel around looking for the opportunity to snatch a child.

So if you see someone acting suspicious near where children walk or play, keep your eyes on them.

Make note of them.

We hope everyone has a safe and productive school year.
