Greenville High School’s Athletic Club will be busy in the coming weeks preparing for its second annual golf tournament.
The four-man scramble will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 21 at White Oak Golf Club. A shotgun start will kickoff the event.
&uot;It’s a good little fundraiser for us,&uot; tournament organizer and athletic club member Rodney Bush said. &uot;We don’t have many. We don’t do one big one, we just have several small ones. We’re going to try to keep it an annual event.&uot;
Last year, the athletic club didn’t have much time to plan for the inaugural event. Although preparation was limited, Bush said the event was a success.
&uot;It went real good for the first year,&uot; he said. &uot;We had 32 players which is good considering we threw it together at the last minute.&uot;
Entry fee into the event is $75 per player, which includes green fees, lunch and prizes.
&uot;All proceeds will go toward all the athletics at the high school,&uot; Bush said. &uot;It’s not for one certain sport.&uot;
Bush and the club are also soliciting businesses for $75 hole sponsorships.
As most organizations believe, Bush said the athletic club decided to hold a golf tournament because of the large crowds they can draw.
&uot;A lot of people play golf around here and it was one of the fundraisers we agreed to,&uot; Bush said.
Awards will be given to the golfers who win the closest to the pin and longest drive holes during the tournament as well as the first, second and third place team members. There will also be door prizes given away.
