Relay For Life: an event for everyone

Once more this Friday, the local American Cancer Society will rally the community for an event that prompts awareness and raises funds for the battle against cancer. Friday and Saturday’s Relay for Life at the Butler County Fairgrounds promises to be another fun event with a solemn and essential purpose.
Teams registered from businesses, groups and families will help raise a good portion of the money needed for the Cancer Society’s worthwhile efforts. Those teams have already been picking up money through avenues.
The weekend’s attractions include entertainment, contests and more. A complete schedule appears in today's Greenville Advocate in the first ever Relay for Life special section.. The relay will start with a lap around the track by cancer survivors.
The most unforgettable event of the relay likely will be the special ceremony Friday night to commemorate those people who lost the battle against cancer and those survivors who overcame the killer disease. Luminaries are placed and lit around the track and it is an inspiring sight.
We at the Greenville Advocate congratulate everyone that makes up the Relay For Life committee and teams, including our own team, if we may, here at the newspaper. These teams are determined to fight cancer. And everyone in this community likely will be touched one way or another by what they see and accomplish this weekend.
