Support the Greenville Arts Council

The Greenville Arts Council recently announced its 2003-2004 season, and they have lined up excellent entertainment opportunities for area residents.

Two shows will cost approximately $30,000 to put on at the Ritz Theatre.

These shows aren't cheap to bring these performances to town.

However, it is important to remember that many visit our city on show nights from outside the area.

They eat at our restaurants and patronize other businesses.

So it is important that we support the Arts Council locally through tickets, season subscriptions and sponsorships.

While on the subject of the theater, we believe it is time Greenville forms a theatrical playhouse group.

In recent years, community groups filled the theater with shows like Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Godspell.

We have no doubt that we have the talent needed for a playhouse group here in town, and we have a first class theater where these shows can be performed.

Other cities Greenville's size have such groups.

One example is Wetumpka which has the Little Depot players.

Last year they performed Steel Magnolias, which was a rousing success, and it was all done locally.

We have the people and it can be done.

All we need are people with the desire and drive to bring it to fruition.

These are two things we need to do.

Support the Arts Council and form a playhouse group.

Both things will only enhance Greenville that much more.
