Convicted rapist Victor Suggs of Dozier, Ala., went before Circuit Judge Ed McFerrin on Thursday to receive sentencing for his latest convictions – one count of first-degree rape and one count of first degree sodomy – which were handed down by a jury on July 10.

The victim in the case was Suggs’ juvenile daughter.

Assistant District Attorney Scott Loftis requested that, due to the heinous nature of the crime, no leniency be shown by the court, and asked for the maximum sentence of life in prison for each count.

McFerrin sentenced Suggs to 30 years on each count, to be run concurrently to each other but consecutively to his previous sentences.

Suggs will be required to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence before being eligible for parole.

In a plea in his defense to the judge, Suggs maintained his innocence.

Loftis said he was pleased with the verdict.

&uot;My main concern is keeping this man in prison long enough for his daughter to grow up,&uot; he said. &uot;She doesn’t need to grow up worrying about her father messing with her.&uot;
