The Camellia City Civitan Club announced the winners of the its annual scholarships recently.

Each year the Club awards two $500 scholarships. The first year scholarship is given to a graduating senior at one of the high schools in Greenville. The award also may be given for a second year.

Emmaline Walters was the recipient of the 2003 first-year scholarship. Emmaline graduated from Fort Dale Academy and will attend Birmingham Southern University. She graduated with an excellent grade point average and has been very involved in her church and other community activities.

She was named the 2003 Butler County Junior Miss. Emmaline is the daughter of Wayne and Carol Walters of Greenville. She is a member of the First United Methodist Church.

The second-year scholarship was awarded to Emory Winters. Emory attended Troy State University last year and will attend the University of Alabama this year. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Sam Winters, Jr. of Greenville.

Terry Gafford is the current president of the Civitan Club, and Tommy Gilbert is the scholarship chairman.

The club also reports it has completed its 2003 Good Citizenship project. Each year the Club gives this award to selected seniors in local schools.

The winners are Ft. Dale Academy’s Hannah Richard and David Johnson, Greenville Academy’s Justin Beeson and Kayla Corey, Greenville High School’s Shae Hartman and Chris Mills and Greenville Middle School’s are Leveda Cleare and Blake Pierce.

Each school’s faculty nominated these students for their demonstration of the highest qualities of good citizenship.

The winners received a Civitan Gold Medal and their names are inscribed on a permanent Civitan plaque, which is kept in their respective schools.
