Georgiana Parks and Recreation, along with the City of Georgiana, will host the AAA Dixie Youth baseball sub-district tournament this weekend.

This is the first time that Georgiana has hosted a tournament. Georgiana Parks and Recreation Director Johnny Lee said he feels because the position of director is a volunteer position and that "no one has taken the time to do this before."

He said that tournament locations are determined by rotation and that the tournaments are hosted by different cities each year. Georgiana will be hosting six teams this weekend, with the tournament beginning at 4 p.m. Friday.

Troy will play Luverne at 4 p.m.; Highland Home and Brantley will begin at 6 p.m. and Georgiana will play Greenville at 8 p.m.

Lee said he would like to thank Butler County, the City of Georgiana, Greenville Parks and Recreation and all the volunteers who have contributed to preparing for the event. "Without them, this wouldn't be possible," he said.

The director said a large crowd is expected for the tournament and that each team will bring a crowd of parents and supporters with them. "It's a big deal," he said.
