ACS#039;s Relay for Life set for Friday

This Friday, many Butler County residents will gather at the Butler County Fairgrounds to help save lives.

People all across America recognize the need for cancer detection and cure, and this event is one where survivors and family members are glad to volunteer. The event is none other than Relay for Life.

The American Cancer Society (ACS) and its two million volunteers are working diligently in communities like Butler County to reduce the threat of cancer.

The event this Friday is an overnight event filled with activities, food and community spirit. Last year, 3,000 communities nationwide participated in Relay for Life and their efforts raised more than $210 million, making this the largest fundraiser in the United States, according to ACS.

Today, there are over 8.9 million cancer survivors. This year in the United States, an estimated 1.2 million people will be diagnosed with cancer and in addition, the disease will kill approximately 552,000 Americans

that is, 1,500 people will die from cancer each day.

Everyone has been touched by either a cancer victim or survivor. Help fight the battle against cancer and attend Relay this Friday.
