The Greenville Tigers, coming away from the past two meetings with success on the gridiron, will try to make it three-in-a-row this Friday when they host Carroll High School-Ozark.

"The Eagles are going to be a tough meeting for us," said Tigers Head Coach Alvin Briggs. "Like us, they too have won their last game n

they defeated Southside-Selma in a close game with the final socre of 39-24 n they will have some of that same mental rush happening as we will in the game."

Briggs said Carroll runs a unique offense from what the Tigers have been used to seeing on the field.

"They do a lot of trips and sweeps, as well as option plays, similar to the offense of Georgia Tech, so our defense will have their hands full," he said.

Briggs said his team is playing with heart and that is a good sign of their development as a team.

"I saw some guys reaching down deep inside themselves to play really hard, with their hearts last week," Briggs said. "And such a hard team as Stanhope-Elmore was a good team for us to win against."

Briggs said he could not praise his defense enough.

"Our defense is really playing excellent ball," he said. "Over the past five games, our scoring defense average has been 8.8 points, that is a great accomplishment.

"Stanhope's longest drive was 31 yards, and wasn't even for a score. I believe given the right circumstances on the right night our defense could play against anyone in the state," Briggs said. "And too I must say that Coach Tony Stonicher has done a tremendous job with the defense as coordinator through the past three years n although anyone looking at them for the first time would think they were seasoned veterans."

Briggs was very proud of his team, and didn't mind saying so.

"This team showed us Friday night that they have pride," Briggs said.

Leading the Tiger defense Friday night was Fred Herbert, with 14 solo tackles, six assists and four sacks which resulted in a loss of eight yards.

Next was Roderick Owens with nine solos and four assists. Then it was Demetrius Simpson with six solos, three assists and three sacks for a Stanhope loss of 17 yards.

Terry Hawkins was next with five solos, two assists, two sacks for a loss of 14 yards and one caused fumble.

The Tigers, now 2-3 will meet Carroll High, with a record of 1-4 at Tiger Stadium at 7 p.m. this Friday.

Carroll was shutout by Daleville, then defeated by Dale County, Wetumpka and Monroe County before winning last week against Southiside.
