Tigers set records in powerlifting

At the 2001 Powerlifting State Championship Meet, The GHS Tigers broke 11 State records.

Terry Hawkins, in the 158-lb. Class, set new State records in every lifting event he entered.

Hawkins, with a total lift of 1,025 lbs., took first place in his weight class.

Candace Davidson also placed first, in the 114-lb. Class, and Andrea Kelley took third in the 198-lb. Class.

It was Corinthia "Nake" Hawthorne taking second place in the 198-lb. class, Cassandra McMillan with second in the 148-lb. class, and Tehirah Smith took first place in the Super-Heavy, plus the "Best Lifter" award for the girls' division.

"These kids worked tremendously hard, and they deserve all the creditif they did not have the ambition to excel, they could not have done as well as they did," said Terry Moore, athletic director, who, along with Assistant Coach James Pair, have been training the team for the last five months for this competition.
