Council awards concrete bids

The Greenville City Council during its regularly scheduled meeting Monday night, awarded bids for concrete for FY 2001-2002.

The low bid winner for regular 3000 mix was Couch at $57.95 per yard.

Stephens was awarded the low bid for regular 3000 concrete with fibermesh, curb-mix, and curb-mix with fibermesh at $60.25, $63 and $64.50 per yard respectively.

In other business, the Council:

rescheduled the meeting of Apr. 23 to Apr. 16 and May 28 to May 29;

authorized the letting of bids for softball complex bleachers;

approved payment of $2,000 to Roth, McHugh and Associates for successful grant application-ADECA School Resources Team grant;

approved payment of $2,500 to Southern Sand and Gravel for labor to remove old pipe and install new pipe on Meriweather Lane;

approved payment of $2,492.80 to Sherman Pipe for 64 feet of concrete pipe at $38.95 per foot for Meriweather Lane repair;

recognized Greenville Police officers Joe Disney and Isaac Durant for their successful completion of the Alabama Police Academy.

Mayor McLendon reminded all in attendance that there will be an insurance bid opening by the Insurance Committee on Apr. 10 at 3 p.m.; the city's quarterly employee safety meeting will be held at the YMCA on Apr. 11 at 3:30 p.m.; there will be a Planning Commission meeting at 5 p.m. and a public hearing for an airport expansion grant at 7 p.m., May 7; council meeting May 14 at 5:30 p.m.; Alabama League of Municipalities annual convention May 19-23; Memorial Day holiday observation on May 28, and a council meeting on May 29 at 5:30 p.m.
