Council to study insurance, sidewalks

The Greenville City Council agreed Monday to have a committee study insurance bids for all city coverage.
Mayor Dexter McLendon will chair the committee. Jeddo Bell and James Lewis will also serve on the panel.
The council tabled action on an ISTEA sidewalk grant.
"It's a grant looking at putting a sidewalk from the courthouse to the YMCA, and there are some questions about the possibility of a sidewalk in another part of town," said McLendon.
The council also:
n amended the range scales for police officer pay.
n declared the landfill timber surplus and authorizing its sale by sealed bid.
n amended services contract with Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce for 2000-2001, to include an annual payment
increase from $15,000 to $20,000.
n adopted purchasing procedure for City of Greenville.
n adopted procedure and setting fees for public use of Ritz annex facilities.
n authorized request of bids for T-shirts for summer recreation programs.
Lewis was not in attendance.
