Quick response prevented possible problems

When a freight train carrying a hazardous materials cargo derailed in McKenzie last week, emergency personnel were on the scene within minutes to assess the situation, and ensure that no life-threatening hazard was present.
Area residents were safely and quickly evacuated from their homes to a shelter, and a specially-trained and equipped hazardous materials team from the Greenville Fire Department went to the scene of the accident to investigate for any hidden dangers.
While it may seem inconvenient to be forced from one's home, it is good to know that Butler County has so many well trained people looking out for our safety.
