April 9-15 decdlared Week of Young Child

April 9-15, 2000 was
designated as the Week of the Young Child with sponsorship nationwide by the National Associaton of Education of Young Children, of Washington, D.C. Locally, the OCAP/ Headstart planned a fun-filled week of family / community – oriented activities.
On Monday, April 10, the children's artwork was displayed at various locations around the city for the citizens to enjoy.
On Tuesday, a special "StoryTime" was held with both retired teachers and parents serving as readers.
On Wednesday, the Headstart children made a special visit to explore the downtown area.
Thursday April 13th was an extra-special day set aside for the signing by the mayor of the proclamation in honor of the special week.
Approximately 50 people were present, enjoying a colorful balloon launch.
A brunch was later held for community leaders and parents.
On Friday a Staff Appreciation Day was held with parents serving as volunteers.
Special thanks go to Hott Waxx, Wal-Mart, Shoney's, and
Robinson Beauty Supply for allowing the display of the children's artwork, and to all parents, community leaders and friends of our youngsters who helped make this a wonderful week.
