Greenville Mainstreet will begin its annual Concert in the Park series on Thursday, April 13 at 6:30 p.m. with a performance by the Troy State University Jazz Band.

The free concerts will be held for five consecutive weeks in downtown Greenville's Confederate Park for the entertainment of the community, said Mainstreet Program Coordinator Nancy Idland.

"We encourage everyone to come and bring the children, a blanket and chairs and picnic supper to enjoy some good music and visit with friends," Idland said. "This is the fourth year we've hosted the Concert in the Park series and it seems to get more popular every year."

Idland said the opening performance this year is sponsored by the Butler County Troy State Alumni Association.

"If you've never gotten an opportunity to see Troy State's jazz band, it is something you don't want to miss," Idland said.

Idland said the concerts are planned for Thursday evenings to encourage the community to take a little time off for fun during the week. Food and beverages will be availble for sale at the event, and organizers are encouraging a family atmosphere.
