Greenville tennis teams struggle against Lanier

The Greenville tennis teams squared off against a strong program from Lanier High School this week as both the girls and boys teams were shut out, 0-9 and 0-9 respectively.

Greenville's Ben Huggins came the closest to scoring for Greenville as he played a close match. But, he fell short as the final score of his match was 8-10. Joel Hewlett lost 6-10, Blain Matthews lost 3-10, Tiger Smith fell 0-10 and Matt McQueen lost 3-10.

Doubles sets by the teams of Matthews/Smith and Hewlett/ Huggins also fell short, setting up the Lanier High shutout on Wednesday at Beeland Park.

The girls played their matches against Lanier on Tuesday at Beeland. They also struggled against the Lanier team.

Number one seed Sara Williamson fell in her match 0-10, Diane Pouncey lost 2-10, Jennifer Campbell lost 0-10, Charity Skipper fell 2-10, Mary Beth Faulkenberry was defeated 1-10 and Lauren Stephenson

had the closest match with a score of 4-10.

Doubles teams of Williamson/Skipper, Pouncey/Campbell and Stephenson/Lynn Lewis all failed to score a point for the Tigers.

The boys' overall record is 1-3, while the girls' stands at 1-3-1.

The tennis team will travel to Monroeville on March 22.
