The Fort Dale girls' tennis team has picked up right where it left off last year by winning their first three matches of the season, including a dominating performance against Lowndes Academy last week.

Each of FDA's girls defeated their Lowndes Academy opponents, leading the Eagles to a 7-0 win. Number one seed, Meredith Mosley won her singles event with a shutout, 6-0, 6-0. The junior also helped by winning her doubles event.

The girls have earned victories in each of their first three matches this season, including earlier wins against Escambia Academy and Lee-Scott Academy. In all, the girls have piled up a 30-match winning streak that dates back three years. The girls stand at 3-0 on the current season.

The Eagles' boys also have started the new season strongly as they defeated Lowndes Academy last week, 6-1. The current season record is 2-1.

Brandon Slagley, FDA's number one boys' seed, earned a 6-2, 6-1 win in his singles event while also helping in a doubles victory.

Head coach Johnny Mack Brown said it is the play of his boys that has been most surprising this season.

"The girls have been playing great. We knew coming in that we had a strong team and that if we played up to our potential and worked hard we would have a good chance to win a lot of matches.

"But the boys have been a pleasant surprise. We have a few boys who played a few years ago but then got away from the game. They have come back and have started the season very strong. I think that we have a good chance at a winning season and going to state if they continue to work hard," Brown said.

Both teams traveled to Selma to face Morgan Academy last night. Their next home match will be against Morgan Academy at Beeland Park on March 21 at 3 p.m.
