The Greenville Academy varsity girls team made the home crowd skip a heartbeat with their thrilling last second win against Calvary Academy.

The 45-44 win came after the Tornados made a run in the second quarter.

With 19 seconds left in the game, Lindsey Stinson nailed the game-winner from inside the three-point line.

GA girls' varsity coach Gary Wayne Bowen said the game was a heartstopper.

"It was a great win game for us," Bowen said. "I could hardly stand the excitement."

Bowen said the team responded in the second quarter when they outscored Calvary 21-12.

"That run in the second quarter was inspiring to watch," he said. "They all played a great game."

Bowen said it was nice feeling to avenge their loss earlier in the season with this win.

"Our girls are getting the experience game by game," Bowen said. "I feel this team will have some good seasons in the future."

Three Tornados scored eight points apiece in

the game. They were Allison Bozeman, Ashley May and Ginger May.

"It was a team effort," the coach said. "Games like this one helps a ball club to build confidence in themselves."

Bowen said the team improved its rebounding in the second half.

"We stepped it up on defense and rebounding in the third and fourth quarter," he said.

The coach said the game went back and forth in the second half and that the outcome would come down to whoever wanted it the most.

In the boy's game, the Tornados fell by seven in a 53-46 loss.

Head coach Steve Whittington said the team played a good game but Calvary took it at the end.

"We led the game early on but they came back on us," Whittington said.

With two minutes left in the contest, GA was poised for a run to win the game but Calvary hit some key foul shots to win.

"I'm proud of the way our guys played. They didn't quit and they showed their character on the court," the coach said.

Senior guard Josh Beverly led the team in scoring and Nathan Coy also contributed in the effort.

"Nathan hit some key shots to keep us in it," Whittington said.

Coy hit two three pointers in the second half to cut the lead to single digits.

"That was one of the best games we have played all year," the coach said. "They never gave up."

The team has a total of 10 underclassmen on the team.

"Our team is young and the games they are getting experience that will help our team out in the seasons to come," Whittington said.
