Security heightened at Brantley School following early-morning incident

Published 11:49am Tuesday, January 29, 2013

Brantley School is on a “soft lockdown” following an alleged early-morning robbery, but school officials say that everything is running smoothly and extra security is in place at the school.

A Pepsi employee making a delivery was allegedly robbed before school this morning.

“About 6:45 a.m., according to what I understand, there was an incident on campus involving a non-student and a Pepsi employee,” said Superintendent Randy Wilkes. “I was called immediately and came down.”

Wilkes said that law enforcement arrived on the scene, and everyone on campus was put in a secure location.

“We checked all our facilities out and didn’t find anything unusual,” he said.

The school has proceeded with a normal day on “soft lockdown,” which means that exterior doors to buildings and classroom doors are locked.

The school system sent out a system-wide announcement via phone, and Wilkes said that to his knowledge, very few students have been checked out of school by parents because of the incident.

“We implemented our safety policy procedure,” said Wilkes, who said that the school is operating today on a “heightened sense of alertness.”

Wilkes also said that he has been on campus all morning with law enforcement.

More information about the incident will be reported as it becomes available.

Glad nobody was hurt. Did y’all notice Wilkes primping on tv before they interviewed him on channel 8? Haha! He loves to hear himself talk. You would think he took care of everything by himself. If they catch the dude I imagine he will want his picture in the paper with the guy handcuffed so it looks like he captured him. Can you say overinflated ego??? Haha!
