Fort Dale falls to Eastwood in overtime

Eastwood Christian School edged Fort Dale Academy 59-51 in overtime Friday night.

FDA fell behind early after managing just four points in the opening period, while Eastwood posted 17 points.

But FDA charged back in the second period to outpace Eastwood 17-4 to knot the game at 21-all before seizing the lead in the third period by outpacing Eastwood 16-13.

Regulation ended with both teams posting 48 points.

As a team, Fort Dale connected on 36 percent of their field goal attempts, including 42 percent from inside the three-point arc.

Jack Bates led the Eagles with 16 points on the strength of a 6-for-9 effort from the floor. He was also 4-for-9 from the free-throw line.

Chip Taylor added 14 points in the loss. He was 3-for-7 from beyond the arc and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line.

Wesley Scott chipped in 11 points and six rebounds in the loss.

Fort Dale will travel to Monroeville on Thursday to take on Monroe Academy. Junior varsity action will begin at 4 p.m. with varsity play scheduled to follow.

 

Defense powers Lady Eagles to win

An 11-0 advantage in the second period propelled Fort Dale to a 33-16 win over Eastwood Christian School Friday night.

The Lady Eagles led 8-2 at the end of the first period, but held the Eastwood scoreless in the second period en route to a 19-2 halftime advantage.

The Lady Eagles forced 25 turnovers and snagged 20 rebounds on the defensive end of the court, while holding Eastwood to just 14 percent shooting from the field.

Anne Matthews led Fort Dale’s offensive charge with 16 points.

Mary Sanford Perdue added seven points and Caroline Snellgrove and Theresa Scott each chipped in four points. Katie Cox scored two points in the win.

Fort Dale will travel to Monroeville on Thursday to take on Monroe Academy. Junior varsity action will begin at 4 p.m. with varsity play scheduled to follow.
