New U-Haul business arrives in Greenville

A new U-Haul business, owned by Rex Smith, Jr. and his wife, LaQuanda, opened for business Monday.

The duo held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the location of the new business,. 31 Sweetridge Road, which is off Holly Hill Road north of the intersection of Alabama Highways 10 and 31.

Tracy Salter, Director of the Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce, told the Smith family the business is a welcome addition to the Greenville community.

“We get calls all the time about where people can rent a U-Haul, especially since Crystal Mini Storage downtown closed,” Salter said. “We’ll definitely start sending people your way.”

Rex, Jr., a Greenville native , along with his wife, got the idea to open a new U-Haul business in June.

“My sister-in-law came home to Greenville and needed to rent a U-Haul for her move to Florida, but there was no U-Haul,” LaQuanda said.

Rex, Jr. added, “So she had to go to Georgiana, but they didn’t have the one she needed. So, she ended up going to Lowndesboro.”

LaQuanda added her father-in-law recommended bringing the business to Greenville.

The couple checked it out online, and they discovered it was not difficult to set up a U-Haul business.

“We did it online,” LaQuanda said. “We filled out the initial paperwork and made a phone call. The dealer came that same weekend …

“Everyone is welcome to come out and visit. We have great rates and friendly service.”
