Donation brings joy to Bright Beginnings

Special to the Advocate

Christmas became a little merrier for students in the Bright Beginnings Program at W.O. Parmer Elementary School.

A local business leader, Dr. Linda Alford, donated $1500 to buy gifts for all 90 kids served by the Pre-K program.  Alford, of Alford Counseling Service in Greenville, wanted to do something for a local school, according to W O. Parmer Principal Jackie Thornton.

“She wanted to make sure every student in the program received a Christmas present,” Thornton said, adding that it was a welcome gift for the first year Bright Beginnings has been housed at W.O. Parmer.

The Bright Beginnings teachers volunteered their time to go shopping for their students. The four-year-olds got to open dolls, cars, action figures and other toys at their Christmas party, Dec. 15.  Alford also donated cupcakes and hot chocolate for the “Polar Express” Day party, Dec. 16.

The kids really appreciated the generous gesture,” Thornton said. “You could see the excitement on their faces.”
