The Butler County Board of Education approved a bid limit to replace the split system heat pumps and wall-mounted heat pumps in each of the Butler County Schools.

The approval was given at the BOE’s October regular meeting.

The competitive bid law states if an air conditioning or heating unit goes over $15,000, then the schools have to bid for them.

“At any given time, as old as they are, we bid the system so we can replace them without going over the $15,000 limit,” Allin Whittle, assistant superintendent of operations, said.

Every school has air conditioning and heating systems, and as they age, they will have to be replaced.

Two vendors have been put in place to work with the split system and wall-pack units.

Ten students graduated from the Second Chance Program. Those that graduated with a GED include, Shakita Peagler, Jerry Andrews, Stephen Vickery, Brad McGough and James Reynolds and those that graduated with a diploma include Candace Clark, Sawyer Skipper, Juan Smith, Taylor Higdon and Caylee Mosley.

* Two FOCUS Group representatives discussed and presented the objectives and goals of the FOCUS groups at Georgiana School and McKenzie High School.

* A+ presentation by Tomesha Hamilton from Greenville High School addressed the community in encouraging children to get involved with AP programs at schools. Douthitt said there is discussion about adding the program to McKenzie High School and Georgiana School.

* The report of fund raising drives and requests for use of school buses, the financial report, which included the financial statement and reconciled bank statement and the continuous school improvement plans and Leah Improvement Plan was all approved.

* There was an approval of the surplus property sale results, personnel report, AA SB delegate selection and legal update.

The location of the regular November meeting will be at McKenzie School.
