A statewide “No Burn Order” issued by Gov. Robert Bentley isn’t expected to darken the skies above Tiger Stadium July 4.

While all 67 counties in the State of Alabama remain under the order issued by Bentley on June 7 in response to the state’s extreme drought conditions, Greenville Fire Department Chief Mike Phillips said it should not impact Celebrate America’s fireworks show.

“We’re not expecting it to affect anything at this point,” Phillips said. “Fireworks are not prohibited under the ban.”

A fireworks show created by Night Magic, a company that has handled the Montgomery Biscuits’ fireworks displays in the past, is planned for 9 p.m.

The “No Burn Order” prohibits all outdoor burning. Under this rule, it is illegal for any person to set fire to any forest, grass, woods, wildlands or marshes; to build a campfire or bonfire; or to burn trash or other material that may cause a forest, grass, or woods fire. If convicted, the penalty for violating the No Burn Order is a fine of up to $500 and/or up to six months in jail.

According to Phillips, the Governor’s Office and the State Forestry Department are monitoring the situation.

“If there are any changes they will let us know and we’ll go from there, but as of now there’s nothing in the order that will affect Celebrate America,” Phillips said.
